Hong Kong Mandela Day Charity Events

Hong Kong Mandela Day 2017

Come to join us as volunteer for two chairty events and spread the spirit of Mandela !

Morning session : Nelson Mandela Rugby Community Day

Venue: Hong Kong International School, 1 Red Hill Rd, Tai Tam

The Nelson Mandela Rugby Community Day in conjunction with the South African Consulate General, MVision, Accenture, Pegasystems, Kowloon Rugby Club and the Hong Kong Rugby Union will be held at Hong Kong International School. We will be hosting c.80 kids with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities from three schools - Mary Rose School, C.C.C. Mongkok Church Kai Oi School and Po Leung Kuk Yu Lee Mo Fan Memorial School.


10am – short opening speeches as well as brief on housekeeping rules

10.30am – Various rugby activities

12pm – South African Drum display

12.30pm – Group photo

12.45pm - Closing speeches followed by lunch

Afternoon session : Community Conservation Activities at Island House in Tai Po

Venue: Island House Conservation Studies Centre,  Island House Lane, Tai Po, N.T., Hong Kong

In celebration of Nelson Mandela Day, WWF and the SA Consulate invite you to take part inspirited Community Conservation Activities at Island House in Tai Po. Participate in a variety of eco-conscious efforts with friends and family then celebrate with braii and buffet as we watch the sunset. There will also be a Used Clothing Collection Point promoting responsible consumerism and recycling.


13:45 - 14:00 : Arrival and Registration

14:00 -16:00 : Community Volunteer Activities:

Boathouse Makeover

Brushes and rollers in hand, participants will brighten up our boathouse with a new coat of paint.

Team of 20.

Garden Clearing

Participants will gather in the garden for general landscape grooming and removal of unwanted debris, such as fallen leaves & branches.

Team of 50.

Coastal Watch / Shoreline Clean Up

Participants will meet on the shoreline around Island House and collect the trash that has floated ashore form the harbour. They will be given gloves and biodegradable trash bags.

Team of 100.

Footpath Restoration

Participants will gather behind the exhibition hall and travel along the footpath to remove leaves, loose branches and other unwanted debris.

16:30 - 20:00 : Braii & Buffet Dinner

All guests are invited to join us for a delicious sunset dinner buffet. We will be lighting up the BBQ and serving an array of salads, curries, and delicious sweet treats for dessert. Wash it down with refreshing homemade lime sodas and lemonade.
