Thank you for visiting the official website of the South African Consulate in Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, in the PRC. We hope you will find the information useful, whether you are planning to visit South Africa or are interested in remaining current with the activities of the South African Consulate. You will find useful links to South African Agency websites that provide more information on investment and trade, tourism as well as covering diverse topics about South Africa and the numerous offerings the country provides.

South Africans have come a long way since the long lines of our first democratic elections in 1994, when South Africa cast aside centuries of discrimination and oppression to form a new society built on the foundations of freedom and democracy. Indeed, South Africa has already shown the world leadership and common purpose in achieving a political democracy constructively and peacefully and continues to work towards building an ever more functional, inclusive and sustainable democracy for all of its citizens.

South Africa continues to rank highly as being investor friendly, for innovation in the banking Sector, excellence in auditing, ease of doing business and sensible fiscal and monetary policies. Rated amongst the most advanced economies on the fast growing African continent, South Africa is laden with business opportunities in multiple sectors and has in place a very robust and investor friendly legislation.

Despite the significant progress made since the first democratic elections in 1994, the South African government realises that there is a need for a much faster pace, more action, and better implementation of the national goals. South Africa has launched the National Development Plan 2030 in its efforts to seriously reduce inequality in South Africa by 2030. You can read more on the NDP and its implementation via the links listed on this website.

Hong Kong is a major international financial centre and continues to leverage the combined advantages of “one country’’ and ‘’ two systems’’. Bilateral trade between Hong Kong and South Africa continues to expand and the direct airline connectivity has seen a steady growth of tourist from this region. Hong Kong and Macau are successful business friendly environments and continue to offer excellent commercial prospects for South Africa.
